Certified Personal Leave

Requirements

  1. Personal leave is authorized for urgent personal business which cannot be scheduled outside regular school hours. Urgent personal business does NOT include recreation, shopping, seeking employment, other employment, pleasure trips, accompanying someone on a business or pleasure trip, extending a holiday or vacation, or other similar activities.
  2. The Superintendent, or his/her designee, shall grant up to three (3) days personal leave yearly to all full-time employees. Staff members teaching half time shall be granted up to three (3) half-days personal leave.
  3. Personal leave taken on Fridays or any day during the month of May requires a specific reason and administrative approval.
  4. Requests should be submitted forty-eight (48) hours prior to when such leave is possible.
  5. Personal leave shall be applied uniformly.
  6. Personal leave is not intended to extend vacations or holidays. If the professional employee has urgent personal business, as defined above, it shall be treated the same on these days (days immediately preceding or following a vacation or holiday) as any regular workday.

If sick leave is exhausted for the FMLA, employees must use personal days.

Improper Use

If personal leave is improperly used for any of the reasons listed above, the individual may be suspended or terminated, in accordance with Section 8.0102E of the master contract.

Non-Certified Personal Leave

Local 151 & 711

Requirements

  2. Employee shall be granted a maximum of two (2) unrestricted days of personal leave per year to all full time employees and two (2) half-days for half time employees.
  3. Personal leave taken during the first two (2) and last two (2) weeks of school requires a specific reason and administrative approval. For miscellaneous employees, this time is unrestricted.
  4. Requests should be submitted forty-eight (48) hours prior to when such leave is possible.
  5. Unused personal leave for the previous year shall be converted to sick leave on July 1st of each year.

Improper Use

If personal leave is improperly used for any of the reasons listed above, the individual may be suspended or terminated, in accordance with the contract of your position

AFSCME 468

Requirements

  1. Employee shall be granted a maximum of three (3) unrestricted days of personal leave per year, which are not cumulative. (The additional personal leave will be effective on July 1, 2008.)
  2. Personal leave may not be used instead of sick leave, unless the employee has exhausted sick leave. Sick leave must be used when the employee is absent due to personal or family illness or injury.
  3. Personal leave is not to be taken during the first two (2) weeks or last two (2) weeks of the students’ school year (except for graduation ceremonies) or the day before or after a vacation period.
  4. The employee shall make requests for personal or emergency leave five (5) workdays in advance to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources through the employee’s immediate supervisor. If an emergency arises, a leave may be taken without written request. However, the employee will be required to file a written request upon return from leave.
  5. Unused personal leave for the previous year shall be converted to sick leave on July 1 of each year. (School year shall be defined to be July 1 through June 30.)
